– Cô ơi, hoa cúc bao nhiêu một bó ạ? (- How much is a bunch of mums?)
– Hai mươi lăm nghìn con ơi! (- 25,000VND)
– Vậy cô gói cho con một bó nhé! (- Then, please pack a bunch for me!)
Have you ever bought flowers at a florist street vendor like that?
Come with me to buy some flowers!
Flower street vendor is a very popular way of selling flowers in Vietnam. They use quang gánh (two baskets hung from either end of a bamboo bole), bycicle or motorbike because it’s easy to acess the alleys.
Flower street vendor can be seen a lot in Hanoi’s street. Each vendor sells many kinds of flowers or only sell 1 type only.
Look at the flower vendor, we can guess Hanoi’s weather. In spring, there are peach blossoms, in summer there are lotus flowers, in autumn there are yellow mums and in early winter there are mums. As for me, my favorite is lilies, which usually bloom in April.
Customers are mostly pedestrians. When they see beautiful flowers, they stop by to buy them. Foreigners are also very interested in street vendors. This is one of the cultural specialities of Vietnam.
I bought a bunch to display at Hanoi Language & Culture Academy.
Along Phan Dinh Phung street, the head of Thuy Khue or Le Van Luong street, there are many street vendors. If you have a chance, please come and buy for them!
