Conditional Sentences: “Nếu… thì…”

Conditional sentences, also known as “if…then” sentences, are an important aspect of the Vietnamese language. These sentences are used to describe a hypothetical situation and its potential outcome. In Vietnamese, conditional sentences can be formed using the words “nếu” (if) and “thì” (then).

1. Grammar note & example:

• Note: if the clauses A and B have the same subject, the subject of the first clause can be ommitted

Example:
Nếu tôi khỏe thì tôi sẽ đi học.
→ Nếu khỏe thi tôi sẽ đi học.
Nếu tôi không bận thì tôi sẽ thăm anh.
→ Nếu không bận thì tôi sẽ đến thăm anh.
