Adverbs expressed the meaning of condition, often in the structure ” có A mới B” which means B will happen if only condition A exists.
Example:
| Con có học chăm chỉ thì mới thi đỗ. | If you study hard, you will pass the exam. |
| Con phải làm bài tập xong mới được chơi game. | You have to finish your homework before you play the game. |
| Có tập thể dục đều mới có sức khỏe tốt. | Exercise regularly, it will be good for your health. |
Words of time + Subject + mới + Verb
It expresses a certain state or action that must be in a certain period. In other words, it means that the state or action cannot be faster than the point at which it is spoken.
Example:
| 30 phút sau tôi mới kiểm tra email được. | Only after 30 minutes will I check my email
(I can’t check email right now) |
| Tháng 3 năm sau em ấy mới tốt nghiệp đại học. | In March of next year, she will graduate from university. |
| 2 giờ 30 phút tôi mới ra ngoài được. | Only when it’s 2.30 pm will I go out (I can’t go out right now) |
- Note the distinction:
- “Mới” indicates an action that happened in the near past
– Tôi mới đến Hà Nội. (S+ mới + Verb)
- “Mới” denote the meaning of the condition
– Anh có làm mới có ăn . (S + V/adj+ mới +V)
– Ngày mai tôi mới đến Hà Nội (time future + S +mới + V)

- Ăn kiêng/ gầy.
- Nói tiếng Việt nhiều/giỏi.
- Làm việc nhiều/ quen.
- Tập viết nhiều/đẹp.

- Tiết kiệm/ đủ tiền mua ô tô.
- Practice 2: Conversation
A: A lô. Ngày mai tôi bay sang Việt Nam. Chiều mai, Anh ra sân bay Tân Sơn Nhất đón tôi nhé ! (Alo. Tomorrow I will go to Vietnam. In the afternoon, please go to Tan Son Nhat airport to pick me up!)
B: Dạ. Mấy giờ anh đến nơi ạ? (Yes Sir. What time do you arrive?)
A: Khoảng 2 giờ chiều giờ địa phương máy bay sẽ hạ cánh. Cộng thêm thời gian lấy hành lý, chắc 2 rưỡi tôi mới ra ngoài được. (Around 2 o’clock at the local time, the plane will land. Plus the time to pick up the luggage, it’ll probably be 2:30 pm I will go out.)
B: Chị Hằng, thư ký riêng của anh nói là anh đi chuyến đêm mà. (Ms. Hang, your personal secretary said that you went on at night.)
A: Chuyến đêm hết vé rồi nên đổi sang chuyến sáng. (The night flight sold out, so I change to the morning flight.)
B: Vâng. Em hiểu rồi ạ Em sẽ đến từ 1 giờ 30 phút. Số hiệu chuyến bay là bao nhiêu ạ? (Yes Sir. I get it. I’ll be there from 1:30. What is the flight number?)
A: VN347 của VietNam Airline. À . Nhớ đến bằng xe 7 chỗ nhé . Lần này tôi đi cùng gia đình. (VN347 of Vietnam Airlines. Ah. Remember to come by 7-seat car. This time I went with my family.)
