HOW TO USE STRUCTURE “TỪ…ĐẾN” IN VIETNAMESE

“từ…..đến…” is used to speak about the duration of time or distance and can be translated as “from…to…” in English. 

• “Từ” : the word denoting what is about to be said is the point of departure, the starting point or the origin of being talked about.
• “Đến”: word denoting what is about to be said is the specific direction or object of the activity, the effect being talked about

• For example: 

– Hàng ngày, tôi làm việc từ 8 giờ sáng đến 6 giờ chiều. (Everyday, I work from 8am to 6pm.)

– Từ nhà tôi đến trường khoảng 3km. (It is about 3km from my house to school)

– Tôi đã xem bộ phim đó từ đầu đến cuối. (I watched that movie from start to finish.)

– Từ xa xưa cho đến hiện tại, truyền thống tôn sư trọng đạo vẫn là một giá trị văn hóa quan trọng của người Việt Nam. (From ancient times to the present, the tradition of respecting teachers is still an important cultural value of Vietnamese people.)
