HOW TO USE THE WORD “XONG” IN VIETNAMESE

• The usage of the element “xong”

The word “xong” can be translated as “finish, complete” in English.

“xong” preceded by a verb or an object, is used to indicate the accomplishment of an action. In response, the element “rồi” (already) usually appear in conjunction with “xong”.

•  For example:

– Chị làm bài tập xong chưa?

– Tôi làm xong rồi.

(Have  you finished the homework? –Yes, I have finished already.)

– Anh làm bài tập xong chưa?

– Tôi đã làm nhưng chưa xong vì bài số 5 khó quá.

(Have you finished the homework yet?-Yes, I have started it but I have not finished yet because exercise 5 is very difficult.)
