How to use “chỉ, thôi” in Vietnamese

How to say “just” in Vietnamese? When speaking Vietnamese, there are two words that denote this meaning, namely “chỉ” and “thôi”. Read this article to learn how to use this word!

I. GRAMMAR

“chỉ, thôi” are adverbs which can be translated as “only” in English, “chỉ” often precedes the main verbs, and “thôi” is often at the end of a sentence.

They can be used together with the same meaning.

NOTE:

The word “chỉ” comes before the verb in the sentence
The word “thôi” comes at the end of the sentence.

II. EXAMPLE

  • Chị ấy chỉ làm một bài tập. (She just did an exercise.)
  • Chị ấy làm một bài tập thôi.
  • Chị ấy chỉ làm một bài tập thôi.
