Like English, Vietnamese also has adverbs of time such as always, often, sometimes, rarely.

– “Luôn”, “luôn luôn” goes before the verb; “luôn” goes at the end of the sentence with the same meaning, for example:

• Tôi luôn luôn nghe nhạc khi đọc sách. (I always listen to music while reading books.)
• Tôi nhận được thư của mẹ tôi luôn. (I very often receive my mother’s letters.)

-“Thường xuyên” goes before the verb, sometimes at the end of sentence, for example:

• Tôi thường xuyên dậy lúc 7 giờ sáng. (I very often get up at 7 a.m.)
• I see her very often. (Tôi gặp chị ấy thường xuyên)

– “Thường” usually goes before the verb or subject, and sometimes is repeated.

Example:

• Tôi thường đọc sách ở thư viện. (I usually read books at the library.)
• Thường thường, tôi đi ngủ lúc 11 giờ đêm và thức dậy lúc 7 giờ sáng. (I usually go to bed at 11 at night and get up at 7 in the morning)

-“Thỉnh thoảng, đôi khi, ít khi” can go before the verb or at the beginning of the sentence.

Example:

• Thỉnh thoảng tôi nhận được thư của mẹ tôi. (Sometimes I get letters from my mother.)
• Anh trai tôi thỉnh thoảng viết thư cho tôi.(My brother sometimes writes to me.)
