Many people from other cities come to Hanoi to work, so when Tet comes, they will return to their hometown. Because of that, the streets of Hanoi became extremely deserted on New Year’s Day.
You will no longer see traffic jams, cars, and street vendors. Hanoi will be very peaceful on these days.
Then what do Hanoi people do on days like this?
On the morning of the first day of the Lunar New Year, I will make a tray of traditional food at home with my family and offer incense to the ancestors. Grandparents, parents, and children will exchange the New Year’s wishes. Children give grandparents lucky money, grandparents and parents give children lucky money. The family will have the first meal of the new year together.
On the afternoon of the 1st of New Year’s Day, people will go to enjoy the scenery of spring. I’m going to the temple to wish you a happy new year. People often go to the temple to burn incense, hoping for a happy new year.

Phủ Tây Hồ is where people often go to wish good luck in the new year
Tạ Hiện street is a place where people meet at the beginning of the year to drink coffee and take pictures together.
Văn miếu Quốc Tử Giám is the first university. So, at the beginning of the year, people come here to wish them good luck in their studies.
Phung Hung mural street is a stretch of road extending from Phung Hung – Hang Ma junction to Hang Luoc flower market. There are many paintings of Hanoi in the past. Residents and tourists can visit and take pictures for free.
